Six Years With a Brand, From Before Launch

What growing with Almatar taught me about consistency, speed and leadership.

I joined Almatar before its official launch, as a designer. Nearly six years later I was its Creative & Art Director, leading a team of designers, as the app grew into one of Saudi Arabia's leading digital travel platforms. Staying with one brand that long teaches lessons you cannot learn project by project.

A brand is built in daily decisions

Launch campaigns get the attention, but brands are really built in the thousands of small posts, banners and app messages that follow. Consistency in those daily pieces is what makes people recognise a brand without seeing its logo.

Grow the system with the brand

What worked for a startup with a handful of designs a week did not work for a company running campaigns, airline partnerships, football partnerships and performance marketing at the same time. We kept evolving the templates and rules so the team could move faster as the volume grew.

Performance and creativity are not enemies

Performance marketing needs many variations, tested quickly. That can feel like the opposite of craft. In practice, a strong visual system makes variations easier, because every version already looks right.

Leadership means building people, not just designs

The biggest change in my role was moving from making the work to building the team that makes it. Clear briefs, honest reviews and shared standards mattered more than any single design I produced.

What I took with me

Long relationships with brands are rare in design. They teach patience, ownership and the value of getting the basics right every single day.
